Zachary: A while ago you were contemplating a custom .35 Whelen on the Montana 1999 action. Just wondered if you had gone forward with it and if so, what do you think of the Montana 1999 action? They're very appealing to me and I would value your opinion.

I have spoken with the people at Montana Rifleman but, like you, want to speak to more people who actually own this action before I make a purchase. I had an opportunity to buy a brand new Remington 700 ADL in .30-06 for $300, but I really want the entire gun (and action) to be stainless, so I passed up the deal.

My other problem has been that I have been so busy with work that I have not been able to pursue this project of mine as much as I would like.

I appreciate your valuing my judgment. As such, rest assured that if and when I buy the Montana Rifleman action, you'll be one of the first to know.

Montana 1999

Zach and Advocate: I just got my flier in the mail from the Montana rifleman and those mauser actions they are selling look absolutely great.

I've had the Montana rifleman rebarrel a rifle for me before and they are an excellent shop. Their materials and workmanship are first rate. I would recommend them - I do. Mikey.

I stopped by their shop and examined the action. It appears to be first rate and I have placed an order for a left handed action. They say the leftys should be available by late spring. I also have had them do several of my rebarreling projects and have be quite pleased with them.

Well Advocate, so far it sounds like the Montana 1999 actions, and the company that builds them, are quite reputable. :D

J Belk says they are real nice. He's the expert and would know. Look for a report soon on them from him at HuntAmerica. He seems to be pretty impressed.

I had 3 of the chro/mo short actions on order to make a rifle for each of my children. Then I got to thinking about the intro offer, and just had to order a ss shorty to build myself a 350 rem mag.

I haven't handled any of the actions, and figure it'll be the end of the year before I see the ones I ordered. That said, I figure once the word gets out on these actions, they will be back ordered for a long time. Not only are the prices reasonable, they are, IMHO, the best designed hunting bolt action on the market. Ok, integral scope bases would be nice, but I can live with srewing on bases.
