I'm in a dither, can't decide which way to jump.
I talk myself into the Mag.
"Plus I can use 44Special's for small game & plinkin'"
But I've alway's "WANTED" a 45LC Carbine. No, I've alway's Lusted for a 45LC Carbine.
And the 44's are known to have accuracy problems.
But the 45 Ain't REAL famous for accuracy either, And it ain't a Cat'ridge you can pick up at the Gas station in Dry Spot In The Swamp, FL.
But I want..........But I need.......But........ ;D

Either one will be for "Informal" offhand, shoot what'cha brought, 100 yard matches down at the range. Nuthin' serious.
But a little money has been known to change hands.
That and just general woods/swamp walkin'.

Somebody help me make a decision. And don't say "Get one of each", I can only do one this year.
Besides whichever one it is I'll want to do a new stock and sight's and....well y'all know how it goes.

There is only ONE true answer to the problem you have. Get both!

If you reload, then I would go with the .45 Colt, plus it has a nicer stock IMHO.

If you don't reload, the .44 is probably a better option.

I do empathize with you, it took me weeks to determine which extra barrel to buy. You have my sympathy.

I have no hankerin for the 44mag, probably never will, but when they offered the 444 again, they got an order from me right now, added the 45Colt Carbine too, just cuz!! ;D Pick one and get it, get the other next year!! ;) From recent reports, I'd have to say that H&R has tightened up the bores on the 44mag, so it wouldn't necessarily be a mistake if you really want it. The one 45 Colt that's been reported so far, didn't shoot bad at all.

Do you own either caliber in a revolver? If you do, I might opt for the same in the handi. If not, I would go for the 44. That's just my preference. I own both calibers in revolvers and don't like to HAVE to reload if I don't want to. I can pick up cheap (or any) 44 rounds anywhere and head to the range. Midway and the others are always selling discounted 44 ammo to stock up on. Come on, you know you'll end up with both eventually anyway...1 month from now, 1 year from now, 3 years from now...you'll have both. The real question is, "which one should you buy first". I happen to like the 44. But, either one wouldn't be a bad choice. I wish you the best.

I prefer the .44 Mag. I own both in revolvers and I shoot the .44 WAY more than the 45. I load it anywhere from light 240 grain loads to the Heavay 300 grain bear thumpers. My 300 grain loads have launched bowling pins a couple of yards off the table 8). I may not win for speed, but it's cool to send those pins flying.
