Chemical color case hardening anyone have info?

Just wondered if anyone had tried it or knew anything about it. Just seeking info... not trying to start a debate about it versus the heat treatment process.... just seeking knowledge.... anyone have any experience with the chemical method, or know anything about it??? Thanks

Seen it done with a combo application of Plum Brown and liquid cold blue alternately applied a bit willy nilly by brush. Looked like the later H&R frames a bit, but nothing like the early frames or real case hardening.

The real color case hardening was done with the steel parts covered in bone and charcoal in a furnace for an hour at 1500 degrees then dunked in cool water. Hard to imagine us doing this at home. The chemical case coloring doesn't harden the metal but can mimick the finish. Here's link to a video:
