Hi All,

Brand new to this forum (I was waiting for Mr. T to open the new FACA site, but got over-eager), but not to FA's.
Here's a pic of my 9" 353, 7.5" 454, 6" Casull 45LC, and 44M Packer. Sure would like to get a CC style OWB for the Packer, the FA factory holster is huge!

I'm on travel right now so I'll post some better pictures when I get home, but I thought some of you would like a teaser. I picked this one up from my dealer after 53 weeks of waiting patiently(kind of), I wasn't expecting it until December so this was quite a pleasant surprise. Having never held a FA before I am extremely impressed with this revolver. I thought maybe the year of waiting would give me unrealistic expectations but the gun is perfect in every way I can imagine. All the cylinders lock up without any play, all of the parts are seamlessly fit, and all three cylinders have uniform .4525 throats which conveniently means I don't have to stock different bullet sizes. For my needs and wants it is the perfect 45 revolver, those Rugers in my safe might get pretty lonely.

Here's my first one, a FA 353 Silhouette model that I just received yesterday afternoon. The picture is not any glamour shot like the others in this thread, I didn't have time to set one up, all I had time for was a pic snapped with my iPad.

285gr bullet over 26gr H110 in a 45 Colt case. The gun is an extremely rare (54 shipped) "Casull 45 Colt". Note that there is NO leakage at the cylinder - The gap is less than 0.001.

Model 97 in .44sp reamed to .44m by David Clements.

Can you describe the advantages vs disadvantages of this? Seems you'd have better load data to work from but you'd then be limited in bullet choices (from 44 mag cases)

"Disadvantage"
By do'n the mod. You just 'killed' your lifetime FA warranty on a Premier Model........
That said-David does outstanding work. He made a couple front sights for my .454.

Agree on the quality of David's work. I too have one of his sights and plans for a second.

Just not sure of the net gain of lengthening the chambers and would like to hear thoughts on the conversion. If the cylinder was longer, it'd be a no brainer, but the small cylinder window was why FA didn't make the 97 a 44 magnum in the first place (or that's what I understand)

I've been considering having my M97 .44 spcl converted to .44 Mag for some time. I shoot a lot of .44 mag length ammo that is limited to less than 1.600" oal. For me, it would be the convenience of not having to stock two different loads (I'm basically lazy).

If you want to use longer bullets (Keith's, or 310s & 320s), you can still use .44 special cases (or deep seat in .44 Mag cases) -- assuming you have a way of keeping the special case loads from .44 special guns of lesser strength. The Lee 310gr FNGC DC, crimped in the lower crimp grove is ecactly the same OAL as listed for the .44 Mag 300gr JSP in the RIFLE DATA section (shorter OAL to function thru lever gun).

Warranty isn't an issue with me because I'm the second owner and if I screw something up, I expect to pay for it.

If the shipping wasn't so dang expensive, I'd send the gun to FA for a second cylinder which I would then have rechambered.

FWIW,

Paul

I did it because I have thousands of .44m cases and a SDB setup just to load .44m. I'm not worried about the warranty. It's a Freedom Arms. I have three different reloads for the gun - mild w 240g SWC, medium w 240g SWC and medium w a 300g TC bullet. I took the deer w a Hornady factory load .44m.

Friend of mine was in the same situation...tons of .44 Magnum brass.... After speaking to Mr. Baker about it he ordered a 97/4.25" octagon in 2014 and ordered a second cylinder with the gun. This was sent to Mr. Clements for reaming to .44 Magnum...

Okay, here's my brand spankin' new M83. It appears to me the grips are flared somewhat more sexily than on my older FA guns. And she shoots.
