H&R Slowly Coming Back?

I'm sure someone covered this already, but it's new to me.

During the Remington break up when Ruger bought Marlin I thought they would have the rights to Harrington and Richardson, but it turns out Palmetto State Armory got that. They started releasing Harrington and Richard M16A1s and H& R labeled parts... Because PSA. It's not a bad idea from a business point of view considering how AR platforms are out selling everything in the universe right now.

Do you think maybe if a lot of us single shot enthusiasts started writing in to PSA they might possibly start re-releasing Handi rifles, Pardners, and Toppers? Even if they just start making barrels for swapping out or sold them kind of in that uppers and lowers idea that you can buy AR stuff in. I know I'm certainly going
to be pestering them over it.....

H&R website link (not much going on other than the Vietnam era M16 release, but I'm hopeful):

Thanks!

I own 2 AR's myself. I have no real issue with them. They're like a sports car, a fun toy, not a trusty daily driver. To be fair, I look at guns through a hunting lens. And really, a bowhunting lens. One accurate shot out to hundreds of yards is a luxury. I'm not a fan of military inspired arms in the woods. I'm not "at war" with the deer lol. But to each their own. The point of my previous post was, unfortunately the genie is out of the bottle and for myriad reasons beyond the public's fascination with all things militaria, H&R single shots are gone forever.

Probably 5 or 6 pages back there is a thread where the president of the new h&r weighed in on the topic in the negative. He's also given interviews where he said it's not economically viable. unfortunate, but probably realistic. They hope to expand into m1 garand reproductions at some point though, which is moderately more interesting to me than their current lineup.

On a positive note I was at a gun store today and there was a older but beautiful condition h&r made Springfield carbine repro hanging on the wall dead center in their best display area. More than I wanted to pay, but it was good to see it still being valued and as worthy of key real estate. as long as there are folks out there who appreciate the old h&rs like all of us on this forum then we'll have company enjoying these great tools.

There is at least one maker of aftermarket barrels for the H&R already - he is a member of this forum - Tbot. He built and advertised a .357 Magnum barrel here a while back and had a tough time getting much interest, Yes, it was a bit higher priced than many had hoped for. I have been chatting with Troy (Tbot) ever since then and he has been kind enough to send me a 350 Legend barrel that he built to review here on Graybeard. I have been slacking and have not started that review but will start a thread on it in the H&R Centerfire Rifles forum tonight.

Well, you can bet it's going to be on the pricey side, that's just for the barrel. The problem is making the receiver lug. It's a bit difficult to machine and runs the price up. However, couple that with the fact that the last .357 Max had about 40 bidders at auction, then multiply that by the number of Handi's out there, then you get an idea of what the market could do for a barrel in the straight wall, 2-2.5K fps, mid caliber bracket. People are currently asking 4-500 for the barrels now. The new barrels would cost more, but then again, they're new. Guns that used to cost 3-300, well - you just can add a grand to that figure now. It's stupid ridiculous, but hey, that what happens when dems run the country and flood the market with worthless trillions.

Treeslayer, I own several CVA's in the compact Scout version and one in the Hunter style. I bought a 35 rem (when they were available) to ream it to 358/356. It shot so good I couldn't do it! Bought a cheap Hunter for about $120 on sale, ran into the same issue. I did ream it though, and it will put you 3 touching (200gr Hornady SP) at 100 yds all day. It shoots better than I can hold, and I'm not too shabby.

Savage single shots are only available as shotguns, been discussed many times in the H&R shotgun forum, there are a couple other H&R clone single shots made as well, but only as shotguns, no rifles which is the topic.

Hey guys, Mike here. I'm the CEO of H&R, and former owner of NoDak Spud.

I have the desire to bring a single shot back to the H&R product line but it will not be a Handi as the tooling is long gone.

When I have more info I can share I will.

Don't expect anything at SHOT this year. It will take me a bit longer than that.

Well darn Mike, so the search continues. My question though, would be this, if you have to make tooling for a new gun anyway, why not make tooling for a Handi and that way you'd have an already established base for acquisition of new barrels, frames, etc., and reverse engineering has to be cheaper than original design.

Stevens 301 if I’m not mistaken
Anyone who buys a chinese clone of a great traditional American rifle or shotgun should be banned from this forum (and more).

Any company that imports parts or complete guns from a communist country like china should be ignored.

Scope manufacturers are also included my patriotic boycott.

I can't stand the thought of any chinese junk replacing great american goods and jobs.

psa does make guns. they buy parts from suppliers and resell them or put guns together out of those parts and sell them. to do this they would have to find a source for barrels actions triggers stocks ect that was cheap enough to put together a cheap gun from and have enough of a long term demand to justify it. just isnt going to happen. they stick to what sells. ARs and their glock clones
