After looking for a while for a used scope mount for my Valmet 412 here in Canada and couldn't find any, I decided to make my own.
I had a milling machine so I made a base and bought a set of Leupold rings to mount on it. ( I am not a machinest, it is just a hobby). I rust blue the base.

I mounted it on my Valmet for last Fall's deer season. I didn't have time to get out to the range to sight it in so I bore sighted it with my laser bore sighter in my basement. The scope (2-7X Bushnell Elite) was bang on dead center and I had plenty of scope adjustment in all directions.

Here is the result, 11 points 250lb buck taken at 60 yards with the 12 gauge slug. You can see the entry point near the shoulder.

Here is the mount.

Re: Home made Valmet 412 Scope mount

Lanark, Nice work. Looks like you used the quick release rings. Do the set screws in each side hold them or did you modify them as well. Looks like you used a pin to fit into the stop to keep it from moving. How did you mill the edge that aligns the scope. Would love a drawing if you made on. I was looking at one tonight but the cost was just too much.

Thanks, Bill R.

Yes I did use the Quick Release rings. I used cone point set screws to hold them in place with some low strength Loctite (#222) on the threads, no modification required to the rings. You can if you want by milling groves on the side of the post but I think the cone point bite will be more than adequate. I tighten the screws after the scope is installed. The scope lines it up straight first.

The edge that aligns the scope is mill with a 30 degree 1/4" dovetail bit. I did install a recoil pin to fit into grove on the top rail.

I haven't created a drawing yet. All the information is in a note book. I will try to create a set of drawing and attach it here when it is done.

Finally had the time to work on the drawing for the scope mount. Here it is for those who want to give it a try to make one.

Adding Picatinny IGS format file for those who has access to a CNC milling machine.
