Rebarreling a Handi for a Newbi

Please pardon my ignorance about the Handis,

After looking around it appears that the only way to rebarrel a Handi is to send it back to the factory. Is this correct? I see that there are many options for barrels in various calibers. But...there does not appear to be any aftermarket pivot pin that would allow the layman to perform a barrel switch at home. Is this correct as well?

I am quite interested in the Handi as it appears to have more options to offer for my little girl's introduction into shooting and hunting. While the price is quite attractive the more important aspect would be the flexibility to fit the stock and action, then just change barrels. It appears that only the Thompson/Center rifles offer at-home barrel changes--I just don't like the looks nearly as well as the Handi rifles.

Thank you in advance,

you can't go buy a barrel off the shelf like you can for a t/c, but there are plenty of barrels here that sell regularly in the classifieds section. There are directions in the FAQ at the top of the page for fitting if you are the do it yourself type. I have bought many from fellow members and probably half will lock right up with no problems. The rest have taken a little work.

Good luck

i have bought 2 barrels here for mine, both fit right up.
you don't have to change the pivot pin. unless it is worn out.
GO AHEAD AND GETCHYA ONE, GETCHYA ONE, GETCHYA ONE.
or maybe 2-3, be careful this is very contagious.
